Griffin Eckstein

I am a reporter and student based in New York City with published work focused on American politics, metro New York culture and breaking news.

Currently, I am a Social Newsgathering Intern with NBC News, sourcing, verifying, and clearing user-generated content for broadcast and digital teams across the newsroom. I’ve earned contributor and bylines on stories covering viral videos, natural disasters and more, and verified UGC ranging from mass killings in Iran to protests in Minnesota for Nightly News, the Today Show and other programs.

Previously, I was a News Fellow at Salon.com, where I wrote breaking news articles and in-depth political coverage, and conducted interviews with legal experts, advocates, and lawmakers. I’ve previously been published in the New York Post, Healthcare Brew, and Washington Square News. At New York University, where I study politics and journalism on the honors track and minor in history, I’ve focused my coursework on political journalism, multimedia and traditional news production, and the histories of democracy, voting rights and fascism.
